The Project

A prime development a stone throw away from the centre of Edinburgh the ‘Engine Yard’ project was a redevelopment of wasteland next to a busy rail line.

We were brought in to design, supply and install the main façade of block 1 – the outward facing side of the development. The face on the brochure the client wanted it in keeping with the sandstone buildings of the surrounding Edinburgh suburb but also needed a lightweight solution to the keep the build within budget. The Alter Ego system allowed them to do just that – forming key steps and features including balcony returns, soffits and crisp mitred corners.

Traditional laid blocks were also provided as part of our works to enable the lower areas to be more ‘robust’.

Completed in 2018 the first block of 5 included retail space to the lower floors along with a gym area and the entrance to the underground car parking structure. Along with luxurious apartment above – all within a short walk of Edinburgh Golden Mile.
