Brought in by GMI Construction to assist in the simple and the complex on the new build, high rise, Hyatt Hotel in the centre of Leeds – our experience in all aspects of cladding was put to the test.
The simple: a single storey penthouse area clad with our CWCT Sequence B tested aluminium rainscreen ‘discrete fix’ rainscreen panel system started the project – the difficult bit was getting it up 17 storeys to the top of the building! Once that was done it was generally plain sailing – it’s a shame you only see it if you are flying over to Bradford Airport!
The complex; low level curved, fluted cladding and soffit areas to the double height glazed bays around the base of the building. Numerous different widths and curve radii meant that to create a solution that worked for all areas was a challenge. With a lack of support grid and increased pressure form the client to ‘keep the costs down’ simple was always the best solution. Remove the welding aspect, don’t lock the curve and allow the grid to form the curve was the way to go. Secret joint lines made the cladding look seamless to the absolute delight of the client and DLA Architects who had to post about it.
