The Project
How do you make a rainscreen look like a traditional stone build? You come to us that’s what you do!
Baxtergate is a town centre refurbishment which brings outside living to life. Eateries and bars line the promenade combined with a cinema complex to the rear it’s a one stop shop for a night out with friend and family. It striking white limestone façade it brings a touch of the venetian to middle England.
The problem with stone, along with having to dig it out of the ground first, is that it is heavy and todays modern lightweight structures just aren’t built for that – this is where the rainscreen comes in. The use of pilasters and feature bands and recesses created the look of a mass stone wall construction but with a fraction of the weight allowing the structure to be streamlined and cost effective whilst still delivering the desired effect. A façade from a different age but with a modern twist.
The development was completed in May 2026 and includes famous brand names such as Cineworld, Nandos, Pizza Express, Starbucks and Bella Italia to name but a few.
In 2017 AROS Architects picked up a well-deserved design award for the project.
